ZIMBABWE’S journey towards becoming a prosperous and transformed nation hinges on progress tracking, transparency, accountability and developing a results-oriented mindset, President Mnangagwa has said.
In a statement on the Monitoring and Evaluation Week, which is underway in Harare, the President said by diligently tracking its progress and learning from challenges, the Government was cultivating a culture of continuous improvement, pursuant to the attainment of upper-middle-class economic status by 2030.
“This occasion reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the realisation of Vision 2030, that of making Zimbabwe an upper middle-income society.
“We stand united in our pursuit of evidence-based decision-making, a cornerstone of our collective progress. Our journey towards a prosperous and transformed nation hinges on progress tracking, transparency, accountability and a results-oriented mindset.
“By diligently tracking our progress and learning from our challenges, we cultivate a culture of continuous improvement,” he said.
The inaugural Monitoring and Evaluation Week is being hosted by the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) and other stakeholders, under the theme “Strengthening monitoring, evaluation and learning towards equitable development for a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030”.
The event, which runs until Friday, is expected to boost the implementation of Government programmes being undertaken by the Second Republic under National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the soon-to-be-launched National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
President Mnangagwa emphasised the importance of learning and accountability as the country continued to develop, adding that Government was fully committed to see through the attainment of national goals.
“Let us embrace this opportunity to deepen our commitment to learning and accountability, assured of the full support of my Government.
“Together, we will pave the way for sustainable transformation, leaving no one and no place behind. ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo’,” he said.
“Wishing you all a productive and impactful Monitoring and Evaluation week ahead.”
From 2018 to last year, the Second Republic, led by President Mnangagwa, has implemented 9 706 programmes and projects, with 6 660 of these already complete.
Others are at different stages of implementation, according to the latest compendium of projects.
The Monitoring and Evaluation week will feature exhibitions and conferences, with participants from within and outside the country expected to grace the event.
The underlying objective of the Monitoring and Evaluation Week is to foster a culture of data-driven governance and citizen-centric programming in pursuit of Vision 2030.
Through such initiatives, stalled programmes and projects would be an indicator of benefit deprivation and denial to would-be beneficiaries, and corrective measures would be taken.
