Outgoing Zanu PF Chitungwiza Acting Mayor Councillor Kiven Mutimbanyoka has said he achieved a lot in the short space of the year he was in office and has promised to continue rolling out development projects to improve people’s lives even when he leaves office.
The former mayor, who, during his 12 months tenure commissioned a fleet of tipper trucks, four services trucks, refuse compactors and a grader, said development of the town would continue under the incoming council.
Cllr Mutimbanyoka, who was Zanu PF parliamentary candidate for Zengeza East constituency in last week’s harmonised elections said major projects in Chitungwiza were last witnessed in 1987, but within a year, he managed to transform the face of the municipality.
“We have managed to buy two tipper trucks, we have managed to buy compactor rollers, we have managed to buy four service vehicles, we also managed to buy one grader, we have also managed to buy a backhoe loader,” he said.
“All these are going to benefit the people of Chitungwiza in that all our roads in Chitungwiza that have been left unattended for a very long time are going to be attended to.”
Cllr Mutimbanyoka promised to support and work with the incoming council should the need arise.
“It was a dream before, but I have actually made the dream a reality and I am very happy for the time I was actually given to serve the people of Chitungwiza in my capacity as the Acting Mayor from March last year up to now,” he said.
“All these things have actually been achieved during my time. Imagine what could actually have happened had I been given five years. I think you have actually seen the buildings that have been renovated. All the council departments have been computerised so we have eliminated corruption.
“We have also stopped the selling of council stands outside the council premises. It is all being done inside and we have actually managed to buy furniture for all the council departments and right now our council is actually operating as it is supposed to be.”
Among other achievements recorded during Cllr Mutimbanyoka’s tenure was the clearing of 47 months salary arrears for workers, repairing of all tower lights with rehabilitation of sewer lines which was ongoing.
Others include computerising all council departments as well as installing a biometric clocking system for workers to eradicate the challenge of ghost workers.
