OVER 10 000 Zimbabwean youths are set to undergo training in cybersecurity in a partnership between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Russian Federation, a Cabinet Minister has said.

“We are gathered to launch Stage 1 of this initiative—Building National Cybersecurity Capacity and Capability—which will train over 10,000 Zimbabwean youth in ethical hacking, simulation of real-world cyberattacks, and cybersecurity fundamentals. The programme will be delivered through a world-class Learning Management System developed by CyberED, with full support from local partner RedZone Digital Zimbabwe.

“Importantly, Cyberus has committed to offering 160 additional scholarships—ten students from each SADC member state—making this a truly regional initiative, and positioning Zimbabwe as a cybersecurity education hub in Southern Africa,” she said.

“Graduates of this programme will not only gain vital certifications, but top performers will be guaranteed job offers on national infrastructure projects and added to Zimbabwe’s national cybersecurity talent pool,” said Minister Mavetera.

ICT Deputy Minister Dingumuzi Phuti said the implementation fulfills the push for a digital economy.

“It is with great pride to see that the meetings we have as a Ministry with various partners bear fruitful results. The organisation came, proposed the desired programme and now there are implementing the project.

“This is what President Mnangagwa envisions,” said Deputy Minister Phuti.

The event was held at a local hotel in Harare under the theme, “Securing Zimbabwe’s Digital Future – Building National Capacity Through Strategic Partnerships”.
