Over 200 households get tap water

More than 200 households in Ingoma and Siname areas under Chief Mapanzure in Zvishavane now have access to tap water following the refurbishment of water tanks, a reservoir and the rehabilitation of the water reticulation system in the area.

The project was facilitated by Zanu-PF deputy secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu, who also sourced a generator to pump water to the reservoir.

Villagers in the area, who have been struggling to get potable water, were resorting to open wells and streams.

There were fears that unprotected water sources could have been polluted from mining activities in the area.

In an interview recently, Cde Matutu said it was incumbent on leaders to ensure that people, even those in rural communities, had access to clean water.

He said most people in mining communities such as Zvishavane, Mberengwa and Shurugwi were getting water from contaminated sources, a development that might have long-term effects on health.

“People in this area have been grappling with water challenges for a long time,” he said.

“As leadership, we felt it was prudent for us to source resources for them, connect them to taped water. We procured a tank, water pipes and a diesel engine water pump.”

Cde Matutu implored youths to desist from political violence and not to be used as conduits thereof.

“President Mnangagwa has reiterated that we want a peaceful, free and fair election,” he said.

“I implore youths, who in most cases are used to perpetrate violence, to desist from being pawns of politicians.

“Youths are being given worthless gifts such as beer and money that cannot transform their lives after which they will be sent to unleash violence on the instigators’ perceived rivals.”
