OVER 400 pool players are expected to take part in this year’s edition of the Mayez two-day Uhuru pool tournament which is scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday at 13 different venues in Bulawayo.
The tournament, which will see Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) class one umpires take charge, is being organised by Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) who through their publicity secretary Osbornewells Dziko said: “Four venues, Golden Pillars, Palace Hotel and Nokkies will play host to premiership matches. Central Business (CBD) League matches will be held at Mash Restoration that is located in Southwold, Ekasi, Kleh Mint and Elangeni Centre. Preliminary matches that will feature teams from Mzilikazi District will be played at five venues, Chillas and Fast Cash (Nkulumane), Nketa Neighbourhood Tavern, Patapata and Gibixhegu.”
Dziko said they were expecting to have 32 players per venue and 52 finalists, who will get Mayez branded T-shirts, will battle it out for the top accolade at Queens Sports Club on Sunday. In sponsoring the event, Mayez are being partnered by Early Ashes, Dziko Games International, Giant Meat Market and Queens Pool Academy. With regards to monetary prizes, Dziko said the winner will get US$500.
The first runner up is guaranteed to get US$250 while the player who will emerge as the second runner up will go home with US$150. Prize money for fourth position is US$100. — @FungaiMuderere.
