AT LEAST 620 exhibitors are expected to showcase their products and services at this year’s Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, which kicks off next week at the Harare Exhibition Park.

Last year, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show recorded 481 exhibitors.

According to the organisers, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS), 323 exhibitors have paid for their stands to date, with more expected to join the show.

The 113th edition of the country’s premier agricultural event will run from August 28 to September 2, 2023 under the theme “Sustained Growth: Adaptation, Productivity and Linkages”.

ZAS chief executive officer Dr Andrew Matibiri said preparations are at an advanced stage.

Dr Matibiri said an expanded event, with a huge turnout from exhibitors and the public, is expected considering the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions.

The agricultural show will consist of five exhibition sections, namely, livestock, cotton, tobacco, agri-produce and home industries.

Dr Matibiri said ZAS is finalising categories and prizes for the exhibitors’ competition. The agricultural show will also see a number of business exchange meetings and other events taking place.

On Monday, ZAS will host a diplomatic business network discussion on climate-smart agriculture.

The President’s Schools Rugby Cup will run from Monday to Friday, with the winner receiving the prize from President Mnangagwa on Friday.

The ZimTrade-ZAS Breakfast Symposium is scheduled for Tuesday, where policymakers from Southern Africa will be discussing potential businesses and linkages in the agricultural value chain.

Also on Tuesday, ZAS will host a national primary school quiz competition, with music and fireworks expected to spice up the competition.

Dr Matibiri said on Wednesday, ZAS, in partnership with the African Renaissance Sustainable Development, will host an agricultural dinner meeting.

On Thursday, ZAS, in partnership with Mejrkh Communications, will host a mining and agriculture breakfast conference.

Dr Matibiri said the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show promotes the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices.

He said a visiting Head of State will be the guest of honour on the official opening day, which is slated for Friday.

Telecommunications company Econet Wireless Zimbabwe will hold “Econet Day” to celebrate its silver jubilee.

“To put the icing on the cake, we shall be hosting different artistes on Friday and Saturday, and as part of ZAS celebrations of the 113-year milestone, we are bringing in Jah Prayzah to lead the entertainment,” he said.
