Farmers have completed 86 percent of land preparations under the Pfumvudza /Intwasa farming programme, with the Government confident of beating the 9,5 million plots target.
In total 8 175 023 Pfumvudza plots have been prepared and are ready for planting.
The Pfumvudza farming model was introduced by the Second Republic to address problems of low productivity and has transformed farmers’ lives and livelihoods.
In his weekly report, Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory Services (ARDAS) acting chief director Mr Leonard Munamati said 80 percent (2 807 263) of the households have prepared at least one Pfumvudza plot and 65 percent (1 824 720) have prepared three or more plots.
Statistics indicate that 2 536 376 farmers have been trained on the Pfumvudza course with 1 515 147 women taking part in the programme.
This season, the movement of Pfumvudza inputs (seed and fertiliser) to farmers has improved with 45 percent of the targeted basal dressing fertiliser having been delivered to various Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots countrywide.
Contracting of farmers under various schemes that include the National Enhanced Agricultural Productivity (NEAPS), the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority ( ARDA ) and the Food Crop Contractors Association (FCCA), is also taking place across the country.
This season farming is funded by both Government and the private sector with development partners also chipping in.
