Over US$14 000 robbed in separate incidents

OVER US$14 000 cash and R3 500 was stolen over the weekend by armed robbers who pounced on motorists and people they had offered lifts in separate incidents countrywide.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the cases in a statement.

“Police in Masvingo are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of robbery which occurred on August 27, 2021 at Clipsham View,” he said.

 

“Five suspects pounced on the victims’ homestead and stole US$10 400 and $300 cash as well as cellphones.”

Police in Harare are also appealing for information that may assist in investigating a robbery case that occurred on August 27, 2021 at the intersection of Robert Mugabe Way and Harare Street.

“Six suspects robbed the complainant of a Nissan Tiida motor vehicle, two cellphones, US$3 000 and R3 500 cash. Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

On the same day, police in Harare arrested Tinotenda Chinoda (20) for a robbery case that occurred near the NRZ Building at railway level crossing.

The suspect and his accomplice who is at large attacked the victim aged 42 who was walking along a footpath to the Central Business District (CBD) and stole two cellphones. Investigations are in progress.

Police in Bindura are also investigating circumstances surrounding a robbery case which occurred on August 26 along Harare-Mukumbura Road in which three suspects who were travelling in a Honda Airwave vehicle attacked and robbed the complainant of US$1 200 cash after offering him a lift to Harare at Bindura Showground.

Motorists have also been urged to observe and comply with the Government’s Covid-19 curfew regulations.

This comes after on August 23, 2021 at 0000hrs, a Bulawayo man who was driving a Nissan Tiida vehicle was attacked by two suspects who then stole the vehicle, US$400 cash and other valuables.

“The suspects also stole US$320 cash, cellphone and laptop from the victim’s girlfriend who was accompanying him. The vehicle was later recovered dumped at a flea market along Lobengula Street. Investigations are in progress,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

He said police in Harare were also investigating circumstances surrounding three robbery cases that occurred on August 26 in Avondale in which three victims lost cash and valuables to robbers after they were given lifts by suspects in different incidents.
