THE GOKHAN Terzi trained Pacifica leads a pack of eleven horses that have been nominated by their stables to take part in the Fillies Classic race slated for next Sunday at the ceremonial home of horse racing, Borrowdale Race Course in Harare.
This years’ edition to be contested over 1 600 metres has $8 000 in stakes money while each one of the minor events to be held on the day carry $7 000.
The highest number of entries is from the yard of Gokhan Terzi which has submitted eight equines.
In defence of the stable colours and definitely pride, Terzi has gone for Belle Epoque not rated, Betula Uber merit rated 56, Carribbean (58), Fashion World (50), Ladies First not rated, Pacifica (94), Sky (64) and lastly Myths and Legends not rated.
From the yard of Bridget Stidolp fans are likely to catch a glimpse of Duffi’s Call (68), Hunyani (52) or Second Guessing (56) if these sail through the qualifying stages.
However, no matter what happens between now and the race day, fans will certainly witness a two-horse race between trainers Gokhan Terzi against Bridget Stidolp.
Considering that these two have been the most successful trainers at Borrowdale over the last couple of years it will be interesting to see who will walk away with the bragging rights at the end of this Fillies Classic competition.
According to the racing manager Betina Gurajena the final fields will be out tomorrow.
“On Thursday we conducted our weights and draws which is the second qualifying stage.
“We expect to conduct the final acceptance stage on Monday (tomorrow) and then move on to print the race card which we expect to be ready by Tuesday,’’ said Gurajena.
Meanwhile, Penny Fisher is the new kid on the block at Borrowdale after her training licence came through on Thursday. This latest development was confirmed by MTC through their racing manager Gurajena.
