A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to perform community service after admitting to charges of exposing minors to pornography.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the children, appeared in court last week Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to the charges. Initially handed a custodial sentence of 24 months in prison, with six months suspended on condition he does not commit a similar crime, the remaining 18 months were later suspended on condition he completes 630 hours of community service.

The accused is a neighbour to the complainants, aged 11 and 12. He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Maxwell Ncube, while Miss Dorcas Maphosa presented the case for the State.

Miss Maphosa stated that on 26 March at around 1 pm, the complainants were on their way home from school when they met the accused, who asked them if they knew watermelons.

“The complainants denied and the accused person invited them to view the water melons in his cellphone.

The accused person then showed the complainants a video of naked people,” said Miss Maphosa.

In a similar case, a 43-year-old man from Nguboyenja suburb in Bulawayo was also arraigned before the courts on charges of indecency and criminal insult.

Tafadzwa Mtomba reportedly invaded his 23 year-old cousin privacy when he peeped at her while she was bathing, through a crack in a wooden door.

He allegedly committed the crime on the 18th of March.

Mtomba proceeded to expose his private parts to her. She promptly reported the incident to the police, which ultimately led to Mtomba’s arrest.
