Songbird Pah Chihera emerged as one of the most promising youths and also a promising female musician with a different sound two years ago with “Runonzi Rudo” which featured Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa.

The song became a household tune, being played at weddings and parties. It became an instant hit. It made many to believe that Pah Chihera was one female musician who was going to chart the way forward for the urban female musicians but alas, that has not been the case.

After a series of promises of a new album which seemed long overdue, people started doubting the songbird and others even labelled her a “one hit wonder” while others thought it was fair to give the young songstress a chance of releasing another album.

Two months ago she managed to release a six-track album “Mbavha Yerudo” featuring Jah Prayzah and producer cum musician Macdonald McDee Chidavaenzi.

Despite having featured man of the moment Jah Prayzah, the album has failed to surpass the standard set by “Runonzi Rudo”. It seems she has failed to redeem herself from the “one hit wonder” tag.

People who spoke to this publication expressed disappointment in the artist saying they were looking forward for something big from the artist.

“When Pah Chihera came on board we thought that was a new beginning to Zimbabwean music, she sounded so talented and full of potential but from what I have heard so far, I can safely say that she is a chancer who managed to grab headlines with only one song,” said one fan Christine Chibika.

Some are of the belief that it was her cousin’s voice Prince Musarurwa that had a huge impact on the song “Runonzi Rudo” that made her look like a star.

“Pah is a one song musician. She has failed to prove herself after Runonzi Rudo. Instead of spending time on Facebook uploading pictures with dogs and different attire, I suggest she should spend her energy in polishing her act. I was at one of her shows in UK last year. She is a disaster in stage work. Live voice is terrible and instrumentalists are just so so poor,” said one fan on condition of anonymity.

On the other hand, Pah Chihera feels she has done her best and that her latest offering is a masterpiece.

“I would like to say this album has taken a lot of my energy as it saw me working with two most talented and amazing artists Jah Prayzah and the amazing McDee.” said Pah Chihera in a statement.

She is so confident that this new album will do better that “Runonzi Rudo”.

“I know it has been long awaited for but now it’s here, it’s rocking, and it’s hotter than Runonzi Rudo.

“Mbavha Yerudo” is a six-track album that features talented musicians and big wigs in the music industry, the title track itself is featuring the amazing Mukudzei Jah Prayzah, and the name “Mbavha Yerudo” is a title that explores the way some people snatch others’ lovers.

After the success of her first album, Pah Chihera, had a number of overseas appearances but it appears she is finding the going tough locally and internationally since of late she has been absent on the entertainment scene for a long time.
