Two men were last Thursday arraigned before the courts after they were allegedly found in possession of 21,60 kilogrammes of mbanje with a street value of $2 160.

Shingirayi Donald Madzonga (35) of Number 5008 New Canaan, Highfield, Harare and Catherine Dirwayi (52) of No. 397 Mandebvu Road, St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.

They are facing charges of dealing in dangerous drugs.

Mr Mahwe remanded them in custody to December 7.

Prosecutor Ms Samatha Dhliwayo alleged that on November 17 this year around 5pm police officers from Harare Crime Prevention Unit received information that the pair was dealing in drugs.

The court heard that the police officers staked out the usual route used by the pair in Budiriro 4 to intercept them.

It is alleged that around 10:30pm, police saw a blue Nissan Mistral approaching the paddocks area and when the car stopped, police went to the parked car and introduced themselves to the pair.

It is the State’s case that Madzonga was behind the wheel while Dirwayi was seated at the back.

The State further alleged that the police searched the car and found a sack of loose mbanje.

The pair was subsequently arrested and the mbanje was weighed at Courier Connect, Harare Main Post Office and it weighed 21,60kg.
