Seke Road and Dieppe Road intending to proceed on another kombi to Epworth. She was allegedly dragged to a bush in Graniteside where the assailants took turns to rape her before robbing her of a US$1 and a mobile phone. Joe Sikhonyana (29) yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma charged with two counts of rape and robbery.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to September 14.
He was advised to seek bail at the High Court. Sikhonyana’s accomplice, Clive Zindoga, is still at large.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleges that on July 31, at around 6pm, the pair stalked the female cop after she disembarked from a kombi at the intersection of Seke Road and Dieppe Road.
It is alleged Sikhonyana and Zindoga grabbed the cop her by the throat and ordered her to surrender all her possessions.
They then allegedly threatened to stab her if she screamed. The duo stole her mobile phone and a US$1 before dragging her into a nearby bush where they took turns to rape her until she fell unconscious.
After committing the offence, the duo fled the scene and the cop later regained consciousness and filed a police report. Recently another policewoman was robbed and gang-raped by four men at the same spot.
Two members of the gang have since appeared in court charged with rape and robbery. She also lost her mobile phone and US$1,50 to the gang.
