POLICE in Zvishavane have launched a hunt for two armed robbers who pounced on a buyer’s house and stole  gold worth about US$12 000 and more than US$1 000 from the dealer’s security guard at gunpoint last week.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the robbers, who were armed with two pistols, pounced on Mr Simon Chivere’s house where they overpowered a security guard on duty.

“We are investigating a case of armed robbery where a 45-year-old Zvishavane gold buyer was robbed of his cash amounting to US$1 217 and gold worth US$11 737 by two unknown men,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the two suspects went to Mr Chivere’s house driving a blue VW Golf where they demanded to see the owner of the house.
“The suspects found Mr Taurai Chamauya manning the premise, but Mr Chivere was not around,” he said.

“The two suspects suddenly produced two pistols before force-marching Mr Chamauya into the house where they demanded keys to the safe.
“Mr Chamauya handed the keys to the two suspects who then tied his hands and legs with a wire before taking US$1 217 and gold worth US$11 737 from the safe. The suspects fled the scene soon after committing the crime.”

Insp Mahoko said Mr Chamauya later untied himself and reported the matter to the police.
“The suspects are still at large. However, investigations are in progress and we have launched a man hunt for the suspects,” he said.
Insp Mahoko also warned members of the public to be wary of armed robbers, thieves and burglars as the festive season approaches.
