Zimbabwe, who beat Bangladesh by 130 runs in Harare to complete a successful return to Test cricket early this month after a nearly six-year break.
Pakistan brought a strong squad with experienced players like captain Misbah-ul-Haq, Muhammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Tofeeq Umer and Tanveer Sohail. Former captain Shoaib Malik also traveled with the team.
Hopes will be high that seamers Brian Vitori and Kyle Jarvis, who picked up five wickets apiece in the match against Bangladesh, will carry their form into the Test against Pakistan. Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor, wicketkeeper Tatenda Taibu, Hamilton Masakadza, ex-captain Elton Chigumbura and pace bowler Christopher ‘Christos’ Mpofu are some of the players for the hosts.
Pakistan will get down to business tomorrow when they take on Zimbabwe XI in a two-day game at the Bulawayo Athletic Club.
The Test match starts on Thursday at Queens. After the Test, the two will play an ODI on September 8 before they move to Harare where they will play two ODIs and two T20 matches.
Matabeleland Tuskers’ chief executive, Stanley Staddon, called on the supporters to rally behind Zimbabwe.
