Palestine appreciates Zimbabwe’s support against Israeli genocide

The State of Palestine has welcomed Zimbabwe’s principled position in condemning Israel’s genocide against Palestinians and occupation of their territories.

Zimbabwe supported the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and supported the initiatives that should lead to realising the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of the independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as the capital.

Ambassador Almassri said the State of Palestine welcomed the overwhelming support of Zimbabwe’s vote among other 121 nations who voted in favour of the United Nations General Assembly humanitarian Resolution L.25 on “protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations” calling for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities” and demanding “continuous, sufficient and unhindered” provision of lifesaving humanitarian supplies and services to the Palestinian civilian population trapped in Gaza.

The relations between the two countries are characterised by long history and solidarity which dates to the pre-independence era.

In a statement, the ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri said Zimbabwe was one important supporter of Palestine in the international arena.

“The resolution passed with a final count of 121 votes in favour to 14 against, with 44 abstentions,” he said. “This vote signals the commitment of a moral majority of the international community to uphold its obligations and to reject double-standards and politicisation of international law.

“Zanu PF spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa mentioned an issue of the international environment in the dangerous situation happening in the Middle East. Two million helpless Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are constantly under attack and cruel bombardment by Israelis who are also using aircraft carriers from the super powers.

“Palestinians on the Gaza Strip are being denied basic needs which are water, food and electricity. He called this a siege warfare and a crime under International Law.”

Ambassador Almassri said as allies of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) since the liberation struggle, Zanu PF had affirmed its support to the Palestinian people and condemned Israel for not abiding by the two State solution that sees two independent states of Israel and Palestine inside agreed and recognised boundaries.

He said Israel had been chipping away from the Oslo Accord in which independence within the West Bank and Gaza was promised to the Palestinian people.

Israeli settlers were being allowed to keep grabbing ever more Palestinian land with the aim of leaving none for Palestinians, imposing them as refugees in Egypt or pushing them into the sea, he said.
