Palestine has commended Zimbabwe for voting in its favour at the United Nations General Assembly draft resolution.

This follows the ICJ’s ruling in July this year that Israel’s continued presence in Palestinian territory was unlawful.

In its ruling, the ICJ also said Israel was under an obligation to end its unlawful presence in Palestine.

The Ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri expressed gratitude to the Government of Zimbabwe for voting in their favour and standing by Palestinian people.

“The adopted UNGA resolution demands that Israel ends without delay its illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories within a year and to make reparations to Palestinians for damages incurred by the occupation,” he said.

“This principled position of solidarity by the Government of Zimbabwe renews the hope of Palestinian people who are facing aggression and genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, to achieve their aspirations of freedom and independence and establishing a

Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

“The state of Palestine urges the international community to swiftly implement the UN General Assembly resolution to ensure the end of occupation and settlement,” he said.

“All countries that did not support the resolution should reconsider their positions and join the right side of history.”
