Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe, Dr Tamer Almassri, says Israel’s continued military assault on Gaza poses a grave threat to international peace and security if the state is not held accountable.
In a statement, Dr Almassri said the Israeli bombardment had devastated Gaza City, reducing entire neighborhoods to rubble.
“Over 65 283 Palestinians have been martyred, with a disproportionate number of victims being children and women. More than 12 000 people remain trapped under the debris,” he said.
Ambassador Almassri accused Israel of committing genocide and crimes against humanity while disregarding international law.
“These have become a source of pride and arrogance for the Israeli government and its fascist leaders like Benjamin Netanyahu,” he said.
Ambassador Almassri said Israel’s actions were setting a dangerous precedent for the world.
“The world is witnessing a dangerous precedent, where Israel acts with impunity, emboldening future regimes with fascist leadership to emulate its egregious practices,” he said.
He likened the forced displacement of Gaza’s population to Nazi-era ghettos and concentration camps, accusing Israel of using starvation, prohibited weapons and mass destruction as tools of war.
“What Netanyahu is doing today mirrors the ghettos and concentration camps of Nazi Germany,” Ambassador Almassri said.
He also said Israel’s unchecked conduct could spill beyond the Middle East.
“If left unaccountable, Israel will continue to commit reckless acts, even against its allies, under the guise of fabricated excuses.”
Despite the humanitarian crisis, Ambassador Almassri welcomed recent decisions by Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and other nations, which he said signalled growing recognition of Palestinian rights.
“Such actions contribute to safeguarding the two-state solution from the dangers of genocide, starvation, displacement and annexation,” he said.
