THE Pomona dumpsite waste-to-energy plant model in Harare is in line with the Second Republic’s Vision 2030 which seeks to transform the country into an economic hub.

Touring the dumpsite yesterday, Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa and his executive expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa’s mantra, “Zimbabwe is Open for Business”, for transforming Pomona dumpsite into an industrial hub.

Cde Masimirembwa and his entourage comprised his vice-chairman Cde Ephraim Fundukwa, secretary for finance Cde Martin Mambo, Secretary for Security Cde Voyage Dambuza, Political Commissar, Cde Kudakwashe  Damson, and youth affairs secretary Cde Emmanuel Mahachi among others.

The team appreciated the work being carried at the site  through the efforts made by the Second Republic.

For the past 30 years, the area was an eyesore, but with the coming in of the new investor, the dump site will become an envy to many.

Cde Masimirembwa and his team were assessing infrastructure development projects being carried out in Harare.

“We are on a tour of various developmental projects which are being pursued by the Second Republic in Harare.  We decided to visit Pomona dump site where we have witnessed marvellous work being done by the investor Geo Genix BV.  They have told us that they will generate power here, they are constructing roads,” said Cde Masimirembwa.

“What we are witnessing today is real work, the trademark of His Excellency President Mnangagwa that we must work, we are the masters of our own destiny”.

He said through the project, the country is now able to deal with the waste in Harare.

“It will be managed properly; it has some health benefits; it has energy benefits. We are told that they will be able to generate 22 megawatts of electricity per day. So we are excited to be here to witness the good work,” said Cde Masimirembwa.

His deputy Cde Fundukwa said with the Pomona project, the city will be able to manage its waste.

“We are impressed with what you are doing. You have been here hardly a month, but the work you are doing with the City of Harare is very impressive. As Zanu PF provincial executives, we are quite excited that issues of waste management will be a thing of the past.

“The Second Republic is talking about putting back Harare, in fact all our cities, into the sunshine cities they have always been”, said Cde Fundukwa.

He said the project will certainly bring a lot of value to Zimbabwe in terms of making sure residents are well looked after and their waste is collected on time.

Geo-Genix operations and compliance manager, Engineer Wadzanai Chigwa, said they are working tirelessly towards transforming the dump site into an economic hub.
