IN a passionate statement, the December 12 Movement, a pan-African solidarity group, has voiced its unwavering support for the people of Zimbabwe in their ongoing struggle against illegal sanctions imposed by Western nations.
The movement’s statement emphasises the responsibility of all African people to defend themselves first, arguing that the sanctions against Zimbabwe are unlawful and have severely hindered the country’s progress. The group recognises Zimbabwe’s historic achievement in reclaiming its land and redistributing it to the people, a rare feat in the world’s history.
The December 12 Movement condemned the economic destruction that has been inflicted upon Zimbabwe through these sanctions, saying: “what they could not accomplish through weapons, they want to accomplish through the destruction of your economy.”
The group called on the Zimbabwean people to never give up, as they serve as an inspiration to the rest of the world in the fight for self-determination.
The statement aligns with the African Union’s recent call for the immediate and unconditional lifting of all remaining sanctions against Zimbabwe, which the continental body believes have hindered the country’s socio-economic development and recovery efforts. The December 12 Movement’s message underscores the widespread pan-African support for Zimbabwe’s struggle and the demand for the removal of the crippling sanctions.
