Bulawayo’s vibrant creative scene is set to receive another major boost as Panthers Modelling Agency hosts its inaugural fashion showcase on August 8, bringing together models, designers, musicians and other creatives for a celebration of the city’s artistic talent.
The event seeks to merge fashion and entertainment into one colourful showcase, highlighting the growing potential of Bulawayo’s creative industry while providing a platform for emerging talent to gain exposure and professional opportunities.
Panthers Modelling Agency was established in 2007 by Vusa Ncube with the vision of bridging the gap for aspiring models in the city by creating avenues for growth, mentorship and development. The initiative was inspired by the recognition that while Bulawayo has an abundance of creative talent, many young creatives lack platforms that nurture their skills and connect them with meaningful opportunities.
One of the organisers, Mzolisi Zibusiso Mtshayisa, said the entertainment programme had been carefully curated to complement the fashion showcase and create an immersive experience for audiences. The event will feature performances from artists including SmallerDj, Kimoe and Anele Nkundlane, among others.
“We’ve carefully curated an entertainment line-up that complements the fashion showcase. More than a pageant, we want it to be a celebration of fashion, art, music and culture, showcasing the incredible creative excellence that exists in Bulawayo,” said Mtshayisa.
He said combining fashion with other creative disciplines such as music, dance and poetry would create a richer experience while emphasising the importance of collaboration within the arts sector.
“More than a fashion showcase, this event is a celebration of Bulawayo’s creative excellence and a reminder that when artists collaborate, the entire creative industry grows stronger,” he said.
Mtshayisa said the decision to work with local entertainers was deliberate, as the organisers wanted to promote and invest in home-grown talent.
“We chose to collaborate with local entertainers because we believe Bulawayo is rich in talent, and we have a responsibility to celebrate and invest in our own creatives. By sharing one platform, we’re creating opportunities for greater exposure, collaboration and growth,” he said.
Beyond the glamour of the runway, the showcase is expected to provide models and performers with a valuable opportunity to interact with industry players, media representatives and potential collaborators.
The organisers said the initiative aims to contribute towards strengthening Bulawayo’s creative ecosystem by encouraging partnerships and opening doors for emerging artists.
