Outgoing Zimbabwe National Army Parachute Regiment Commanding Officer Colonel Phillip Kupe formally handed over command of the regiment to Lieutenant Colonel Jameson Bishi at a ceremony held in the capital yesterday. Col Kupe spent more than six years overseeing activities at the regiment and facilitated the expansion of the base, while initiating several development related programmes.
In his farewell speech, Col Kupe said he was optimistic that the in-coming Commanding Officer Lt Col Bishi would maintain high standards of the elite unit.
“I have confidence in his abilities. He undoubtedly possesses and embodies all the necessary skills and knowledge to enable him to be successful in his new post,” he said. “As a paratrooper I believe you will thrive in your new station and I wish you all the best.”
Lt Col Bishi hailed Col Kupe for maintaining high standards of training and operational efficiency at the regiment despite challenges resulting from illegal sanctions imposed by the West.
Col Kupe was now the Commandant of the Zimbabwe Military Academy in Gweru.
The ceremony was presided over by ZNA`s Chief of Staff (General Staff), Major General Martin Chedondo.
