PARENTS should advise youths against drug and substance abuse to ensure a bright future for Zimbabwe. This was said by ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu in a speech read on his behalf by Deputy Commissioner-General Social Ndanga at a prize presentation ceremony of the Second Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund Half Marathon in Harare yesterday.
“Allow me to delve into the rampant and menacing drug and substance use that has fiercely attacked our Zimbabwe citizens, mainly the youth and the world over,” he said.
“We are obliged, as an arm of the Government, to actively participate in the fight against these menacing illicit alcohols, as well as drug and substance use.
“It is important at this platform that I urge our youth, whose astuteness Zimbabwe’s posterity hinges on. I would like also to urge parents to advise the youths on the dangers of drugs.”
He said the Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund had been a beacon of hope for orphans, widows and other vulnerable members of society.
The Trust Fund, he added, supports 71 orphans, with 28 attending secondary school, 42 in primary school and one at university.
“This remarkable achievement is a direct result of the tireless efforts and steadfast dedication of our stakeholders, who have embraced this noble cause with open hearts and unwavering determination,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihobvu said the Trust Fund persevered over the years, despite formidable socio-economic challenges, owing to support from various stakeholders.
“Your unwavering commitment has been the driving force behind our ability to navigate these turbulent times as we continue on our mission of empowering the less fortunate,” he said. “It is with a deep sense of conviction that I encourage you all to maintain your support for these life-changing initiatives. The road ahead may be strenuous, but together we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our way.
“I implore you to continue your generous donations, whether in cash or kind, for they are the lifeblood that sustains the Goodwill Trust Fund’s vital work.”
This year’s marathon edition included the wheelchair, juniors and women categories.
