War veterans and senior citizens aged 70 years and above will now be exempt from paying parking fees in Harare.
The exemption, which was announced by City Parking on Tuesday, is expected to relieve the financial burden on the city’s vulnerable population.
However, the exemption will only apply to Harare residents who satisfy the eligibility requirements.
“City Parking is pleased to announce a parking exemption for Senior Citizens and War Veterans. Eligibility requirements include proof of residence in Harare, vehicle registration book registered in the beneficiary’s name, beneficiary must be a licensed driver,” City Parking said in a statement.
For applications to be approved, senior citizens should prove that they have turned 70-years-old by the date of application while war veterans must provide a valid War Veterans ID.
The exemption however, does not apply to commercial vehicles, vehicles not for private use, or vehicles not being used by the beneficiary. Additionally, the exemption is limited to one motor vehicle per beneficiary and is valid for one calendar year.
Beneficiaries will be expected to renew their qualification annually to continue enjoying the exemption.
