Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Public Works and National Housing has commended the progress made on the Dombotombo civil servants’ flats in Marondera, describing the housing project as a significant step towards improving accommodation for Government workers.
Chairperson Dr Maxmore Njanji and his committee toured the project on Tuesday to assess progress and monitor the utilisation of public funds.
Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, Dr Njanji said the committee was impressed by the pace and quality of the work, noting that the project is now about 99 percent complete.
“We are here as the Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Public Works and National Housing to assess construction progress at these flats,” he said.
“As a committee, we are mandated by the Constitution to monitor how Government funds are utilised. That is why we are here in Marondera to assess progress on the construction of these flats.
“We have noted that there is significant progress here and the works are about 99 percent complete.
“As a committee, we will go back and lobby for the release of more funds so that the outstanding works can be completed and civil servants can have decent accommodation.”

Dr Njanji also praised the quality of the construction, saying the project reflects Government’s commitment to providing safe, affordable and dignified housing.
“As you know, it is President Mnangagwa’s vision and commitment that people should have decent, affordable and safe accommodation in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“If you look at these flats, they have been properly built and are of a high standard. We want to thank the President and Government for this initiative.”
The Dombotombo housing project comprises four blocks of flats, each with 16 housing units, and is expected to benefit civil servants in Marondera by improving their living conditions and reducing accommodation challenges.
The project forms part of Government’s broader programme to provide quality housing for public sector workers across the country.
