PARLIAMENT is committed to addressing the needs of citizens while also preparing for future demands, Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda has said.
He made the remarks while officiating at the launch of Parliament’s Committee for the Future at New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden yesterday.
“This historic launch is a palpable expression of Parliament’s resolute commitment to fulfilling its constitutional obligations by addressing the immediate needs of the citizenry as it charts a visionary roadmap for the future.
“In launching the Committee, Parliament affirms that democratic governance must be measured by how effectively it responds to the exigencies of the present and, more critically, by how wisely and courageously it prepares for the demands of the digital ecosystem of the future,” Adv Mudenda said.
The Speaker said while Zimbabwe’s path was inspired by pioneering experiences drawn from other jurisdictions such as Finland, it must be charted on its own terms, grounded in its own constitutional architecture, its own extraordinary ecological endowment and the accumulated wisdom of its own people.
The inaugural Chairman of the Committee is the Deputy President of the Senate, Lieutenant-General (Retired) Mike Nyambuya expressed his gratitude for the appointment.
“The establishment of the Committee is rooted in the constitutional responsibilities entrusted to Parliament and in the recognition that effective governance must address not only the challenges of the present but also the long-term consequences of the decisions we make today,” he said.
