National Assembly Speaker Advocate Jacob Mudenda has ordered a committee to investigate the alleged death threat to Kuwadzana East legislator Mr Nelson Chamisa on the eve of the opening of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament last month. The committee, which will be chaired by president of the Chiefs’ Council Chief Fortune Charumbira, will include Mufakose MP Ms Paurina Mpariwa, Zvimba West legislator Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, Southerton MP Mr Gift Chimanikire, Zaka Central MP Cde Paradzai Chakona and Luveve legislator Mr Ntandoyenkosi Mlilo.

“The committee will investigate the source of alleged threatening message, determine whether the message directly constituted contempt of Parliament and make appropriate recommendations and report to the house by March 31 2017,” he said.

Harare West MP Ms Jessie Majome also complained to the Speaker that she and other legislators were attacked by members of the public during the public hearings on the Budget in Dangamvura, Mutare.

She complained that she was attacked while conducting parliamentary business.

“The same thing happened in Mutoko and Bulawayo. I am entitled to be protected. The trend is increasing,” she said.

Adv Mudenda said Hon Majome should report the matter to the police and give a detailed report to Parliament, so appropriate action could be taken.

He said Ms Majome could have brought her case before Parliament when the House resumed sitting on Tuesday.
