A LOCAL football analyst yesterday said there was no way former ZIFA vice-president Omega Sibanda could convince the whole Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation to have his way in the preparation of the report on the state of football administration in Zimbabwe.
Sibanda, who is a member of the committee that has over 20 participants, had been fingered as the author of the document that was leaked out to the public this week.
When contacted for comment, Sibanda refused to be drawn into the discussion.
“I cannot comment on that because this is an issue that is before the Parliament,” he said.
However, one legal commentator yesterday said it was not possible that one individual could convince the whole committee and have the report his own way.
“From the look of things, the report is straight forward. There is definitely no way one person can coerce the whole committee made up of honorable members of parliament and have things his way.
“The other thing is that whoever made the comments was out of order because this document is still before parliament.
“That person risks being charged with contempt of parliament because you cannot be seen to be publicly criticising a document that is being debated in parliament, especially when it is still on motion stage. That’s being disrespectful of the portfolio committee and parliament as a system and someone could be charged for that,” said the analyst.
This comes as the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation have compiled a report dubbed the State of Football Administration in Zimbabwe, directing the Sports and Recreation Commission to reinstate the recalled ZIFA board members led by former president Felton Kamambo.
The Sports Commission said they have noted the report with great interest and will be following the developments.
