Parly to hold pre-budget consultative meetings

Parliament will this week hold budget consultation meetings for the 2016 national budget in different cities and towns. The Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development will lead the public hearings. “The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development will be conducting Public Hearings on the 2016 National Budget Consultations.

“The public, stakeholders, interested groups and organisations are invited to the hearings. The contributions made will be considered by the Portfolio Committee and will be part of the committee’s report to be tabled in the National Assembly,” Parliament said in a statement. Parliament also said members of the public were free to submit their views in writing to the Clerk of Parliament.

At least 19 meetings have been scheduled for the consultations. The consultative meetings will be conducted by two teams from the portfolio committee commencing on October 5. The first team will conduct its meeting on October 5 at Pat Mclean Hall in Kariba and Chikangwe Hall in Karoi. That will be followed by meetings the following day (October 6) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harare and Seke Unity L Community Hall in Chitungwiza.

On October 7 the team will meet Bindura residents at Tendai Hall and later at Tsungubvi Hall in Glendale with other meetings scheduled for Chibanguza Hotel and Hope Fay Hotel and Conference Centre.

The team’s last meetings will be held at Miles Hotel (Chinyawuhera) in Zimunya and at Sakubva Beit Hall in Mutare. The second team will also begin its meetings on October 5 at Mucheke Hall in Mutare and at Chivi Shed in Chivi. This would be followed by two other meetings on October 6 at Purple Heart in Beit-Bridge and another one at Gwanda Hotel.

The following day, October 7, the team will have meetings at Small City Hall in Bulawayo and Tsholotsho Catholic Church in Tsholotsho. The team will then have other meetings at Chinotimba Hall in Victoria Falls on dates to be announced before concluding its programme in Kwekwe at Kwekwe Theatre.
