Part of Simon Mazorodze Road has been closed for rehabilitation, from the Rothmans area to just after Star FM in Harare.
Traffic is being diverted to alternative routes to allow for the works.
Construction of the Simon Mazorodze–Willowvale slip lane at the proposed Rothmans Interchange is also progressing well, with the contractor on site. The slip lane is aimed at easing congestion at the intersection.
Government recently announced that preparatory work has begun for two additional interchanges at the junctions of Simon Mazorodze and Willowvale Roads, as well as Simon Mazorodze Road and Remembrance Drive.
More interchanges are also in the pipeline to ease congestion, reduce road carnage and modernise the country’s infrastructure.
These will be at:
– Mabvuku Junction
– Harare Drive–Mutare Road
– Harare Drive–Liberation Legacy Way
– Nemakonde Way–Harare Drive
– Sam Nujoma–Harare Drive
– Westgate Traffic Circle
– Kuwadzana Traffic Circle
– Churchill Avenue–Liberation Legacy Way
Plans are also at an advanced stage to construct two more interchanges at the Seke Road–Delport Road junction and the Robert Mugabe–Chiremba Road junction.
Government is also set to construct an overpass at the intersection of Chiremba Road and Glenara Road as part of wider infrastructure development efforts.
