ACCRA. — Ghana midfield powerhouse, Thomas Partey, says he will always be ready to play anywhere the Black Stars coach, Milovan Rajevac, assigns him.
The Arsenal midfielder was one of three goal-scorers as the Black Stars defeated the Warriors 3-1 in a 2022 World cup qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday evening.
Partey started the game as Ghana’s deepest lying midfielder.
He was, however, liberated in the later stages of the game, which saw him launch more attacks, and eventually score a fine solo goal.
Addressing the press on his preferred role for the Black Stars, Partey said that he is prepared to sacrifice for every position to see the team triumph.
“It’s not about where I play for the Black Stars, it depends on the coach and any role I am given to play. I will just do whatever I’m asked to do to help the national team,” he said.
The Ghanaians will be hoping the 28-year-old will reproduce the second half form, when the Black Stars meet Zimbabwe, in the return fixture this afternoon. The Black Stars arrived in Harare on Sunday, night almost 12 hours before the hosts touched down in their country, for today’s game.
This gave the Ghanaians a huge advantage of adequate rest, and more training time, before the game.
“The smart travelling arrangements by Ghana ensured that the Black Stars trained on Sunday before departing for Harare,’’ reported GhanaWeb.
“While Zimbabwe were travelling back home on their long commercial flight, the Black Stars managed to put in a full training session on Sunday morning before catching their charter flight to arrive in Harare before the Warriors. “Zimbabwe used a commercial flight that took them via Ethiopia.
“This has clearly given Ghana the advantage of gaining adequate, rest and more training time, ahead of hosts.’’
Andre Ayew, the Ghanaian captain, is focused on the game and hopeful the Black Stars will return from Zimbabwe with the three points.
“Great game but, importantly, massive three points. Time to recover and go again. Always a pleasure Black Stars.’’
The game was the first for Serbian Rajevac, who took over from CK Akonnor, after the disappointment of the loss in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian winger, Kamaldeen Sulemana, has been included in Whoscored.com’s Best XI signings of the summer transfer window. The teen sensation has been in brilliant form since joining French club, Stade Rennes, from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. — Ghanasoccernet/GhanaWeb
