PASSING THROUGH THE NATIONAL SPORTS STADIUM ON MONDAY AFTERNOON, IT WON’T BE BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR INBOUND TRAFFIC

PARTS of the HARARE-Bulawayo highway will be temporarily closed to motorists on Monday as authorities introduce traffic restrictions around the National Sports Stadium.

The restrictions will be from 4pm to 9pm.

However, outbound traffic from the city centre through the National Sports Stadium area will not be affected by the measures.

The temporary restrictions are expected to affect motorists travelling towards the city centre during the evening peak period, with authorities urging the public to plan their journeys in advance.

The restrictions are meant to ensure that there won’t be a traffic gridlock around the National Sports Stadium on Monday evening.

The giant stadium will host the 2027 AFCON qualifier between Zimbabwe and the DRC, which kicks off at 6pm.

According to a notice issued by City Parking, the traffic measures will be in place from 4 pm to 9 pm to manage anticipated high traffic volumes in the area.

The carriageway inbound towards the Harare City Centre will be closed to general motorists, with a police checkpoint at the intersection of Bulawayo Road and Harare Drive restricting access.

The access will be open only to match officials and motorists with valid match tickets.

“All other vehicles will be diverted onto Harare Drive towards Solomon Mujuru Drive,” read the statement.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, particularly Solomon Mujuru Drive, to avoid congestion and delays around the stadium.

“Motorists leaving the City Centre will experience no disruptions and can use their normal route,” read the statement.

City Parking said the measures were being implemented to ensure the smooth movement of traffic during the match and reduce congestion around the National Sports Stadium.

Motorists have been encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow directions from traffic police and road marshals during the period.
