A COUPLE that had overstayed in Botswana was yesterday fined $150 each for forging passports, including for their two daughters to come back home for the festive holiday.
Noah Watungwa (38) and his wife, Florence Kwaramba (40) both of Chivi were convicted on their own pleas of guilty to forging a travel document when they appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Joshua Mawere.
Both husband and wife said they were not aware that the date stamps on their passports were fake since they had hired an agent to process their travel documents.
“I sentence you to a $150 fine each. However, today you have to pay $150 for yourself and I will give you up to 27 January to pay for your wife. Prisons make sure he pays $150 today before you release him,” Mr Mawere said.
Prosecutor, Mrs Rose Sibanda said on November 26 this year, the couple endorsed their Zimbabwean passports as well as those of their two daughters aged four and six years respectively, with fake Zimbabwe Immigration date stamps to enter the country. — @richardmuponde.
