A 53-year-old pastor from Ambassador Christ Church in Gweru allegedly raped his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter, a magistrate heard yesterday.
Sheppard Sande of Woodlands Park in Gweru appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga who remanded him in custody to December 8 for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor Daniel Tafuma told the court that on an unknown date but in the month of August at around 1PM, Sande called the juvenile to his house and sent her to buy airtime. He instructed the minor to put the airtime recharge voucher in the dining room.
Sande followed the girl into the house, dragged her to his bedroom and allegedly raped her once.
The court heard that during the same month the man of the cloth was at it again when he saw the juvenile on her way to the shops to buy bread.
Sande asked the juvenile to buy him bread as well and upon her return, he led her to his bedroom where he raped her once more.
Tafuma said the matter came to light after Sande’s third attempt to rape the girl hit a brick wall as she refused and proceeded to narrate her heart rending ordeal to her mother.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Sande’s arrest.
