A PASTOR in Bulawayo has been arraigned for allegedly raping an eight-year-old congregant in Pumula suburb.

Clayton Nkala, 26, appeared before Western commonage magistrate, Themba Chimiso, for allegedly raping the girl whose name cannot be disclosed for legal reasons.

The name of his church was not revealed in court.

Chimiso did not ask Nkala to plead and remanded him in custody to May 9.

“I left my daughter at a friend’s house to do some piece jobs. When I came back at about 3PM, my friend came to my house to tell me that my daughter had revealed that she had been raped by the pastor,” said the mother.

The court heard that Nkala attacked the girl at a dump site in the bush.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told the court that on April 1 at around 3PM, the girl went to a dump site together with her three- year-old friend to pick up some tins to play with.

“Whilst at the dump site, the accused emerged from behind and dragged the complainant into a nearby field. He stripped the complainant and threatened to kill her if she screamed,” said Mageza.

“He had sexual intercourse with the minor without her consent and without using protection.”

The mother made a report at Nkulumane Police Station which led to the arrest of Nkala.
