Pastors urged to stop sexual affairs with teenagers

SOME of the men of cloth have graced newspaper pages and electronic media space for the wrong reasons.

While they are tasked to shepherd the flock, some of the pastors or prophets could be best described as wolves in a sheepskin and have been accused of getting in between the sheets with the unsuspecting teenagers.

The deeds that are usually committed under the cover of darkness usually come out in broad daylight when the teenager has fallen pregnant.

Seeing that there is no way out the teenager would spill the beans naming her pastor as the one responsible for the pregnancy. In some instances, such cases are reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused but in other instances, the parents of the child opt to sweep the matter under the carpet in a warped bid to protect their pastor.

Such parents would rather suffer in silence rather ruin the reputation of their “spiritual father.”  Bishop Dr Rocky Moyo the president of Council of Churches in Africa (CCA) said some pastors invite teenagers to private places where they would have sex with them.

“There are pastors who lust after the teenagers who would be serving under their leadership. The pastor would invite the unsuspecting teenager to his office or to a private place in town where he would sexually attack her and subsequently impregnate her. I have dealt with a number of teenage pregnancies and the culprits are pastors or prophets. This has left my heart bleeding because we as pastors are losing trust from the flock,” he said.

The CCA president urged parents to accompany their children or to assign someone to accompany them when they are going for counselling sessions.

“Yes there are some pastors or prophets who are good but among the good, there are bad apples. Parents should never trust some of the pastors too much. When a child has been invited for a counseling session by the man of cloth they should accompany her or assign someone to go with her,” he said.

He added: “They should always phone to check on them and that would help to keep them safe.”

Pastor Moyo has advice for men of cloth.

“Such teenagers have nothing to lose but you have a reputation to protect. It is wise to resist the temptation and avoid being in secluded places with a teenager. Furthermore, such illicit affairs cause squabbles in marriages and worst situations wrecks marriages,” he said.
