Epworth came to a standstill yesterday as relatives, friends and the community bade farewell to four people who perished in the Beatrice road accident.
Sixteen people died in a horror crash last Friday in Beatrice at around 4pm when a haulage truck travelling towards Harare had a head-on collision with a Mercedes Benz Sprinter at the 53km peg along the Harare-Masvingo highway.
Speaking at the funeral service for four victims in Epworth, Pastors for Economic Development national founding chairperson, Prophetess Councilor Idirashe Dongo said those who perished in the accident will always be cherished.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the families, friends and the entire Epworth community in the wake of this tragic loss of so many lives,” she said.
“Words cannot express the deep sorrow and shock felt by all of us during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you as you navigate through this immense grief and pain.
“Remember that you are not alone in your sorrow, I have personally come with a delegation of pastors and church leaders to offer our unwaivering support and solidarity.”
Added Prophetess Dongo: “May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace and may we find solace in the knowledge that their presence will forever be cherished in our hearts.”
She encouraged the community to offer comfort to those who are mourning their loved ones.
“Stay strong, stay united and may God grant you peace and healing in this time of great loss,” she said.
Prophetess Dongo also praised President Mnangagwa for declaring the accident a national disaster, adding that this assisted the bereaved families during the dark hour.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank our compassionate President and Government for assisting the families in burying their loved ones.
“We understand that this is going to be a huge task for the church and as Pastors4ED, we are going to continue providing spiritual support to the families of the victims, including prayers, counseling and other forms of comfort. In addition to that, we are going to provide practical assistance to the victims.”
Prophetess Dongo was accompanied by Archbishop Bernard Manyara, Pastors4ED Harare Province chairman, Bishop Tegwe of Apostolic Missions, Priest Tapera of Bethsaida Apostolic Church and many other church leaders from Harare.
