PLATINUM Stars media liaison officer Tebogo Mochadibane believes his team will cause an upset when they battle it out with one of the best assembled teams in the Absa Premiership, Mamelodi Sundowns, on Saturday.He has tipped Zimbabwean born Patrick Kaunda, a recent addition to Stars, for success.
Stars are now regarded as giant killers after claiming the scalps of clubs like Kaizer Chiefs last year.
They go into Saturday’s MTN Top 8 expected to compete favourably to reach the round of four.
The Rustenburg-based side is now home to former Njube Sundowns striker Kaunda who was acquired during the off-season from
Botswana outfit Satmos FC where he impressed with 20 goals.
Mochadibane told Chronicle Sport: “The preparation for the crucial game is running smoothly without any injuries so far. We are definitely looking forward to that much anticipated match.
“It is always good to go to such tough encounters with all the players available. We know Sundowns and our aim is make them play our game.”
Mochadibane said that Kaunda has settled down well at the club and did well during pre-season training.
The two teams will clash at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
Mochadibane said they were happy with the work done by coach Allan Freese.
As Kaunda was making his way to the club, striker Takesure Chinyama was joining the long list of flops in that country after having his contract terminated by Stars.
The club believes Kaunda will have a big say in their fortunes this year.
Sundowns’ spokesperson Kabelo Mosito said the Brazilians were ready to face stubborn Stars.
“As the league champions we will approach this game with caution knowing that any team playing us needs a win. It’s only Khama Billiat who is still out injured and others are available for the do-or-die encounter,” said Mosito.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane will have a selection headache.
