Patrols on major roads

Government will introduce patrols on the country’s major highways to clear roads of stray animals and curb traffic accidents involving livestock, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Dr Obert Mpofu has said. A fencing project barricading all major roads will follow.

The initiative follows an increase in accidents caused by stray domestic animals, particularly in the Matabeleland provinces. Perimeter fences along most highways have either been stolen or vandalised, and cows, goats and donkeys now roam freely.

Addressing students taking the Joint Command and Staff Course at the Zimbabwe Staff College in Harare recently, Dr Mpofu said Government was sourcing funds for the fencing project.
