Payet: West Ham stay not certain

DIMITRI Payet’s agent Jacques-Olivier Auguste has denied the France international ever said he was ‘100 per cent staying’ at West Ham. Payet was quoted by The Sun saying he was certain to remain an Irons player, but Auguste has reignited transfer speculation by telling L’Equipe: ‘I have no idea where this (interview) came from but in any case he never said that.’

Payet, 29, was one of the standout players for France at Euro 2016, scoring three goals on the host nation’s run to the final against Portugal. The highly-rated winger, who joined West Ham from Marseille in a £10.7million deal last summer, was voted the club’s Player of the Year in his debut season after netting 12 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

Such impressive form has seen Payet linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea in recent weeks and Auguste is refusing to rule anything out. He added: ‘With West Ham it is quite simple, if a club is interested they will call the club, and then, we will see.

‘Now Dimitri is certainly feeling good at West Ham, but to say that he will 100 per cent stay is difficult. ‘Because if tomorrow he has to leave, I think he will be burnt in public.’ — Daily Mail
