SOS Children’s Villages is a welfare organisation that looks after orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children.
It comprises of 15 family homes headed by a mother and her assistant as well as a kindergarten and primary school.
In terms of the partnership, Peace Security will provide financial and material support every month to one of the homes at the village.
Peace Security managing director Mr Abel Mubango urged other companies to follow suit.
“As private and public companies we should take time to partner with the communities that we operate in and offer any kind of assistance, mainly because without the community there will not be any business for us hence no profits,” he said.
Mr Mubango added that his company had gone into partnership with SOS Children’s Village to cement a longstanding relationship with the home and to demonstrate his company’s commitment to orphaned children in the village’s care.
“Our association with SOS dates back to 2003, since when we have provided security services to the Waterfalls village from time to time. However, we decided as a company that in addition to this below the line contribution we are making we should also make an above the line contribution hence the decision to adopt one of the houses.
Speaking at the same occasion, SOS Children’s Village Zimbabwe national director Mr Gary Birditt said the move strengthened the partnership between the village and the security firm.
“Gone is the service provider relationship that we have enjoyed for many years now this customer service provider relationship has been extended to a close partnership, where Peace Security Company now supports one SOS Children’s Village family house through a monthly donation of US$400 since August 2011,” he said
The village is largely donor-funded from the international community. However, moves are underway to find an individual sponsor for each of the 15 houses.
