A 38-YEAR-OLD MAN from Plumtree was caught red-handed by his grandmother while leering at her as she slept naked in her bedroom.
Reabetswe Ncube appeared before a Plumtree magistrate on two counts of malicious damage to property and threats to commit murder.
He was not asked to plead, and the magistrate remanded him in custody.
Allegations are that on August 2, 2024, around 2am, Ncube returned home drunk and demanded food from his grandmother, Rebecca Ngwenya.
When she directed him to the kitchen, he returned complaining that the portion was too small, leading to an argument between them.
During the altercation, Ncube allegedly took a plank and smashed two bedroom windows.
He then went into the kitchen, took a pot containing food and hurled it against the wall.
The court heard that on August 4, Ncube returned home intoxicated and went directly to his grandmother’s bedroom.
He reportedly lit a torch and peered through the broken windows where his grandmother and another woman were sleeping naked.
When his grandmother woke up and discovered him spying on them, he was overcome with shame.
He told his grandmother that he was now looking for money to flee to South Africa.
He, however, threatened to kill her before escaping or, failing that, to commit suicide.
Fearing for her life, his grandmother moved to her eldest son’s home.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to Ncube’s arrest. — B-Metro

Family buries mutilated corpse without head
In a bizarre incident that has sparked widespread speculation, a Honde Valley family was allegedly forced to bury limbs of a relative who had reportedly “committed suicide”.
They were instructed to forego the traditional body-viewing ceremony ostensibly because the coffin had been sealed by doctors using a special chemical to preserve the corpse.
Incredibly, the coffin containing the left leg and arm of Liberty Gwiriri reportedly could not be lowered into the grave until certain rituals were performed at the grave site.
Some family members now suspect foul play after Tichaona Gwiriri allegedly brought Liberty’s “fresh” head to the grave three weeks after the burial of the limbs and six months after the reported suicide in 2021.
This led to the exhumation of the remains in order to bury the head.
The process was allegedly overseen by Tichaona, a police officer.
Upon exhumation, Liberty’s remains, which did not have a head, were found to have decomposed.
It is believed the head had been discovered three villages away by women collecting firewood.
Family members were shocked when Tichaona turned up with the head, which they claimed appeared remarkably fresh.
Liberty’s aunt, Margaret Gwiriri, demanded an explanation.
Despite her protests, the family proceeded to bury the head.
Margaret subsequently approached Chief Mutasa’s court to reveal the disturbing incident. She told the court that the sealed coffin could not inexplicably be lowered into the grave on three separate attempts.
This prompted pallbearers to summon her to witness the deceased’s wife performing some rituals.
“We were told that the coffin had been sealed by a doctor and should not be opened due to a delicate preservative. Despite our objections, we were ignored until the coffin inexplicably refused to descend into the grave. I was summoned to witness the deceased’s wife performing some rituals,” Margaret recounted.
“We insisted on confirming the identity of the remains before burial. Ultimately, only four people were permitted to view the body. Upon opening the sealed coffin, I discovered it contained only a leg and a hand, with no head or other body parts. I screamed in shock, alerting mourners about the absence of the head. However, some family members insisted on burying the body parts without the head.”
Three weeks later, Tichaona brought Liberty’s head and ordered the exhumation.
This was allegedly carried out without a formal exhumation order, as prescribed by the law.
Margaret demanded DNA tests and a post-mortem on the remains, but Tichaona reportedly declined, claiming this would take two years to complete.
Despite her objections, he insisted on burying the body parts without a burial order.
Before his death, Liberty had called Margaret to inform her that his premature baby had died at the Marondera General Hospital and was awaiting cremation.
However, he claimed the baby’s spirit was preventing the cremation, appearing to stare at him whenever he attempted to hand over the body.
Shortly afterwards, Liberty vanished and was later found dead.
Edward Gwiriri subsequently informed Margaret that Liberty’s missing head had been discovered.
He sent her a picture of the head, which Tichaona later brought home for burial with the rest of the body.
Margaret now lives in fear as three family members who viewed the body before burial died under mysterious circumstances.
She believes she may be next, as she is the only remaining witness.
She also became increasingly anxious after dreaming of Liberty warning her about impending danger.
Edward claimed Liberty’s head was remarkably fresh when it was delivered, although six months had elapsed after his death.
“We followed Tichaona’s instructions. As a police officer stationed in Headlands who had brought Liberty’s head home, we assumed we were acting correctly, especially with the local village head’s involvement,” he explained.
Another relative, Gibson Gwiriri, expressed the family’s shock at being forced to bury body parts without medical examination or an explanation for the missing head.
“Burying a body with missing parts would have been distressing, but understandable. However, burying only a hand and leg is incomprehensible,” he said.
Chief Mutasa condemned the family for burying the body parts without the head.
He also reprimanded them for exhuming the remains without notifying the authorities.
The family indicated that they were following Tichaona’s orders.
They claimed Tichaona could not attend court because he had been transferred.
But Chief Mutasa later summoned Tichaona to appear before the court. — Manica Post

Barbaric, heartless rapist
A man who dragged a woman into his bedroom, assaulted her with a walking stick and subsequently raped her has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Henry Mthombeni (46) from Inyathi in Matabeleland North province recently appeared before a Bulawayo regional magistrate on accusations of rape.
Despite pleading not guilty, he was convicted and initially sentenced to 20 years in prison.
However, five years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
In her ruling, the magistrate described Mthombeni as barbaric and insane because of the brutality and violence he exhibited while committing the offence.
The court heard that he mercilessly beat up the woman, causing injuries to her face and chest.
On May 27 this year, the woman visited Mthombeni’s home to deliver a blanket.
Mthombeni unexpectedly accused her of theft and forcibly dragged her into his bedroom, where he assaulted her with a walking stick.
A neighbour intervened after hearing her screams. A week later, the woman returned to Mthombeni’s homestead to leave another blanket.
Once again, he accused her of theft, dragged her into his bedroom, beat her up with a walking stick and raped her.
The victim subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to Mthombeni’s arrest. — Bulawayo Bureau
