PEGWELL BAY defied the odds to win the 1 300m Springvale House Sable Flyers Listed race at Borrowdale on Sunday. With eight horses taking to the starting stalls in the $8 000 purse race, trainer Amy Bronkhorst’s mare Pegwell Bay did well to win the race by 1.25 lens.

Andrew Fortune pulled the straps and the five-year-old Pegwell Bay was unstoppable in the second race of the 2015-16 season.

The partnership managed to dominate last week’s Airforce of Zimbabwe race but lost the places towards the finishing line but were better organised this time around.

Trainer Kirk Swanson’s Iron Lady, with jockey Francios Herholdt, came second.

Pre-race favourite Gentle Brooke directed by jockey Randal Simons from the

Amy Bronkhorst stable came third in the race.

Gentle Brook was rated (84) and had 36 runs coming into the race with a record eight wins.

The Alyson Wright stable, who threw in Tallie Two, also managed to make the places and pocketed $600 for their efforts.
