A 20-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman who stabbed her alleged love rival on the buttock with a kitchen knife during a fight over a man has been sentenced to 210 hours of community service.

Rejoice Moyo of Pelandaba suburb was convicted on her own plea of guilty to assault by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

She was initially sentenced to nine months in prison, with three months suspended for three years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence during that period.

The remaining six months were wholly suspended on condition that she completes 210 hours of community service.

Prosecuting, Ms Catherine Kuzu told the court that on August 31 at around 9AM, Moyo went to the home of the complainant, Anna Nkomo, in Old Lobengula suburb.

The court heard that Moyo confronted Nkomo, accusing her of having a relationship with her former boyfriend.

A misunderstanding subsequently ensued between the two women.

“Moyo hit Nkomo all over the body with an electric cable, stabbed her once on the buttock and slapped her three times on the face,” said Ms Kuzu.

Nkomo sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment. A report was made to the police, leading to Moyo’s arrest.
