ANOTHER group in support of President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, the People with Disabilities for Economic Development (PWD-ED), has been formed with a thrust of championing the transformative polices of the Second Republic that have positively affected their lives.
The formation of the group follows that of many others that have come—lured by President Mnangagwa’s economic policies that leave no one and no place behind.
It is estimated that 900 000 to 1,4 million people in Zimbabwe have some sort of disability and last year President Mnangagwa launched the National Disability Policy that is addressing issues of marginalisation and discrimination of Persons with Disabilities (PWD).
True to his commitment to development that leaves no one behind—the policy is also empowering PWDs to improve their quality of life and enable them to partake in the national development agenda.
In an interview yesterday, interim chairperson of the PWD-ED, Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, said they feel included under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, hence the formation of the group.
“The President has been supporting us, he has elevated our own into leadership positions and has availed funds for our empowerment, we feel that we can only be taken care of under his leadership where he has proved that disability is not inability by giving our membership funds for empowerment projects,” he said.
Playing his part, Cde Muduvuri has built a 150-bed hospital in Kadoma and plans to build more clinics that will cater for PWDs and war veterans.
“When I was involved in an accident, and battling for my life, it was none other than the President who came to my rescue and I am saying as a person who is now living with a disability, I can only repay the President by providing free clinics to people with disabilities”.
Cde Muduvuri is also the founder of Murefu Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation (MREF), an organisation that seeks to transform the lives of PWDs in Zimbabwe through providing rehabilitation services, partnering with people and their communities, supporting life enhancing opportunities for everyone to live, work and belong in an inclusive world.
The organisation also promotes the inclusion of PWDs, networking with local, regional and national organisations, and providing medical services.
