provincial finals held at Machipisa Bar in Highfield at the weekend.
Pfumojena shrugged off stiff competition from nine other groups to land the coveted US$1 000 prize money.
By winning the prize, Pfumojena and Munandi Band automatically qualified to represent the province at the national finals at Glamis Stadium on September 17.
The young artiste and his group put up a polished performance that impressed the audience as well as the judges and proved how perseverance and hard work pays dividends.
It was clear from the beginning Pfumojena and his group were clear winners on the day and many people were not surprised when the judges announced him as the winner.
However, the majority of the groups lacked stage presence and were not serious.
They proved that they still have a long way to go if they want to make it the music industry.
In second position was New Rhythm who kept part of the audience on the dance floor with their music and for that walked away with US$500.
Ambassadors of Life were on third place and pocketed US$300 for their efforts.
But the day belonged to Pfumojena, who showed the importance of hard work.
The young artiste has come a long way becoming almost a permanent feature at most performances held at the Book Café where apart from featuring as a musician, has also starred as an actor.
Pfumojena has also performed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts.
Launched in 2001 by the National Arts of Zimbabwe in collaboration with Delta Beve-rages, the competition seeks to promote young aspiring musicians and assist them to realise their dreams. The event also gives the young artistes a chance to interact with established musicians as well as assisting them in recording their music.
The gesture aims at promoting the development of original music through the identification of groups who have the potential to produce material worth recording.
Chibuku Road to Fame has seen groups like Club Shanga – Music Crossroads winners – honing their talents and achieving their dream through the music platform that the event offers to upcoming music groups.
