Peterhouse Kings plunge into battle

PETERHOUSE College are set to play their first game at the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival this afternoon when they take on Midlands Christian College at Prince Edward’s Jubilee Field. The Kings were forced to cancel their game against Prince Edward, in what was to be one of the biggest games on Tuesday, after one of their parents was involved in an accident on their way to the festival.

Last night, festival director, Sebastain Garikai, said the Kings will plunge into action today.

“I have spoken to their officials and they have said they will be able to play, so I know they will definitely be playing tomorrow (today),” said Garikai.

Today, the big guns will be on the show, once again, with Watershed hoping to maintain their winning form following Tuesday’s 18-8 over Marlborough.

Petra were boosted by their shock 14-12 win over Hillcrest.

Watershed face a tough task when they take on Falcon College, who won their opening game against Churchill, and the story is the same for Midlands Christian College.

Eaglesvale will hope to pick themselves up from their 5-27 loss at the hands of St John’s College and so will Churchill, whose handling skills let them down, in their 7-21 loss to Brandon Dawson’s Falcon College.

“We have to play and give it our all if we are to overcome Peterhouse because we let ourselves down and made too many errors in the opening game,” said MCC coach Marvin Chirume.

However, a lot of attention will be on the final two games of the day with the Battle of the Saints, the Dragons of St George’s College taking on St John’s Colleges’ Rams, on at 4pm.

Both sides are yet to lose a game after the Dragons destroyed MCC 48-12 while the Rams beat ‘Vale.

Churchill and Prince Edward will battle for the first time in more than 20 years at the festival.

Kyle College coach Charles Jiji knows his boys battle against Cyprian “Supa” Mandenge’s “Vale” will be a tricky one.
