GIANT Petroleum escaped with a US$300 fine after Harare magistrate Ms Nyasha Marufu yesterday found the company guilty of contravening two sections of the Income Tax Act.

Giant Petroleum is a registered company involved in the import and distribution of petroleum products in Zimbabwe.

The State, led by Mr Chipo Muvhamba, proved that in November 2025, Zimra conducted compliance checks on Giant Petroleum regarding the submission of income tax returns.

The checks revealed that the company had failed to comply with provisions of the Income Tax Act by not submitting income tax returns for all four quarters of the 2024 tax year, as required by the Commissioner.

On the second count, the court heard that Zimra conducted compliance checks on Giant Petroleum in November 2025 regarding the submission of Pay As You Earn (PAYE) returns.

The court heard that the firm had failed to submit PAYE from January to October last year, as required by the Commissioner.
