OUTGOING CAPS United star Ronald Pfumbidzai is looking forward to an immediate impact at his new South African club Bloemfontein Celtic and the Zimbabwe international has put on hold his white wedding originally scheduled for December.
Pfumbidzai played his last game for CAPS United on Wednesday when he provided two assists as the resurgent champions powered to a 2-1 win over Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium.
He was scheduled to wed his sweetheart Graduate Rusike in December, but that has been put on hold as Pfumbidzai indicated he wants time to settle at Celtic.
To show commitment to his wedding, Pfumbzidai and his fiancée were at the Magistrates Courts in Harare last week where they took marriage vows.
As he bids farewell to the Green Army, Pfumbidzai remained optimistic that he would do well at Celtic and reckoned that his game had been on the rise since his return from a short flirtation with Danish football.
Pfumbidzai said he would celebrate his union with Rusike once the pressure of settling down at a new club had eased.
“I had a court wedding last week on Wednesday, a ring was put on my finger. I knew it was going to be difficult asking for some time out. We will have celebrations later when I find time.
“I had a good season when I returned from Denmark. I am looking forward to a career at my new club.
“CAPS United is my home, the only team I played for in the league, but it is all good that my career has moved an inch higher so it is 50-50,” Pfumbidzai said.
Pfumbidzai also paid tribute to the Makepekepe fans for the support he received during his time at CAPS United whom he joined in 2013.
The only other time he left CAPS United was for Danish outfit IK Hobro in 2015.
But after a fine run with CAPS United in the Champions League during which he was one of the stand out players, it was always inevitable that Pfumbidzai would move again to a club outside the country.
Now CAPS United will begin to adjust to life without Pfumbidzai in their title defence when they travel to Gweru to face an unpredictable Chapungu.
The champions return to the stadium where they won their championship last season with striker Simba Sithole scoring their 1 000th goal in the Premiership.
Makepekepe are also celebrating 40 years in the country’s top-flight league and the 40th anniversary of the iconic Harare Derby against Dynamos.
Club president Farai Jere yesterday said as part of the celebrations, they were now asking their fans to rise, on the 40th minute mark of every game they will play, beginning with the Harare Derby, to celebrate the iconic showdown, and their life in the top-flight league.
The fans are now expected to rise and clap hands for a minute every time the clock hits the 40th minute mark.
Five matches have been lined up across the country tomorrow with Ngezi Platinum looking to bounce back from their 0-3 hiding at the hands of CAPS United when they receive Highlanders at Baobab, ZPC Kariba date Harare City at Nyamhunga while leaders Chicken Inn are at home to Hwange and FC Platinum welcome off-form Black Rhinos at Mandava.
On Sunday, DeMbare have a home date against Yadah in a showdown that is certain to have a lot of interesting sub-plots.
