AFTER reaching the Copa Coca-Cola football tournament national finals last year, Pfupajena High are convinced they are in a good position to challenge for the trophy this year in the boys section.
The Under-15 boys and girls’ tournament will be staged in Zvishavane from July 12 to 14.
Most of the provinces had their provincial finals last week, except for Manicaland, whose games started yesterday with the girls competition and ends today with the boys finals.
Chegutu’s Pfupajena cruised to the national finals when they won the Mashonaland West provincial competition last Friday.
They beat Chinhoyi 3-0 in the final and their sports director, John Rabison, said they want to carry the same momentum to the national finals.
“Our plan is to actually go there in Zvishavane and win the trophy, bring it back to Chegutu. Last year we failed in the final but this year we are prepared.
“Our preparations started way back in January and the players themselves are now geared up. We played a lot of friendly matches and managed to bring good results.
”It’s a good indication, it shows the boys have been working hard.
“We had friendlies with schools from as far as Gutu. Gutu Mission came to our school, so that actually gave our team a lot of mileage in training,” said Rabison.
Pfupajena made their maiden appearance at the national finals last year in Bindura and lost in the finals to Rusunguko from Mashonaland East.
“First of all, I would like to applaud Coca-Cola for what they have been doing over the years. We have seen a lot of players coming out of this competition.”
